- Educators' Reference Desk --formerly Ask ERIC, now includes 2000+ lesson plans, valuable links to education information and organizations, and question archives from Ask ERIC.
- ERIC--"The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education, produces the world’s premier database of journal and non-journal education literature. The new ERIC online system, released September 2004, provides the public with a centralized ERIC Web site for searching the ERIC bibliographic database of more than 1.1 million citations going back to 1966. Effective October 1, more than 107,000 full-text non-journal documents (issued 1993-2004), previously available through fee-based services only, will be available for free."
- International Education Indicators-- "a compilation of indicators from a multitude of data sources which provides a rich array of information on the current state of education internationally. They are intended to provide snapshots of the U.S. education system in comparison to systems in countries around the world."
- NEA Higher Education Almanac provides current information on higher education employment conditions. The Almanac includes national salary data, and up-to-date information on faculty workload, the economic conditions in the states, the number of support personnel on the campuses and their levels of compensation, and trends in bargaining
- National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) The NCES is the "primary organization that collects, collates, analyzes, and reports statistics on American education." This is a searchable index to educational statistics collected by the US government. There are locators for finding public and private schools. http://www.nces.ed.gov
Specific Issues in Education
- No Child Left Behind This site provides information from the US Department of Education on the new education law signed by President Bush in 2002 and includes information about charter schools, testing, and supplemental services. http://www.nochildleftbehind.gov
- Distance Education & Training Council This non-profit organization (formerly the National Home Study Council) says it is the "global leader in distance learning accreditation" and is recognized by the US Department of Education as an accrediting organization. Its directory lists degree-granting institutions, high schools, post-secondary schools, and military and police schools. http://www.detc.org
- The Literacy Web--from University of Connecticut, voted in Choice as Oustanding Academic Title 2003. Links to resources and research, all age groups.
- PBS LITERACYLINK "The site that helps adults build the basic skills for lifelong learning." It serves "the under served and hard-to-reach adults who want to prepare for the GED test or learn basic skills for employment. There are two learning modules which can either be used alone or along with the PBS literacy television program. http://pbs.org/literacy
- TOEFL Online This is the official site for the TOEFL examination series. People preparing to take the Test of English as a Second Language exam will find practical advice on how to take the exam and some practice tests. http://www.toefl.org
- U.S. Charter Schools: an online learning community to serve and support charter schools. The site provides the steps necessary for starting a charter school, a list of offices to contact in each state, and sources of funding. http://www.uscharterschools.org

- American School Directory "Connecting families and schools." This is a searchable directory to 108,000 schools in the U.S. It provides addresses and telephone numbers, names of administrators, school calendars, and photos. http://www.asd.com
- Cooperative Children's Book Center-- is a unique and vital gathering place for books, ideas, and expertise in the field of children's and young adult literature. The CCBC is an noncirculating examination, study, and research library for Wisconsin school and public librarians, teachers, early childhood care providers, university students, and others interested in children's and young adult literature.
- Cyberschoolbus--from the United Nations Statistics Division, a valuable resource for primary and secondary teachers developing curricula on such global concerns as peace, poverty, human rights, and world hunger.
- edHELPER.COM This web page was developed by teachers for teachers. Lesson plans and other instructional materials for k-12 classrooms are available here. http://www.edhelper.com
- Education Index The goal of this site is "to provide learners and educators with access to the best educational web sites on a variety of subjects and life stages." The "Weasel World" section of the page contains educational games which can be downloaded. The "Coffee Shop" is a chat room for teachers & administrators. http://educationindex.com
- Education World "Where educators go to learn." This site is an index and a directory. There are links to 110,000 educational sites. There are folders with articles, project ideas, and lesson plans on topics, such as technology in the classroom, curriculum, education standards, rural schools, etc. www.education-world.com
- Math Forum--from Drexel University, a comprehensive resource for math educaton assistance. Contains hands-on web learning tools, lesson plans, and activities for preK to college courses. http://mathforum.org
- Teachers Network TeachNet is a non-profit organization, which provides access to educational resources for K-12 teachers. There is also an online store for buying educational books and videos. http://teachnet.org
