When ordering books, videos, or cds, you may request an item in a few ways.
- If you already know which item you would like to request, you can go directly
to the Book/Video/Cd Request
Form where you can manually enter the item details.
- Or if you are starting your research and do not have specific titles in mind,
you will want to search a library catalog. Below you will find instructions for completing the blank Interlibrary Loan Form and for requesting Interlibrary
Loans within Library Catalogs.
Learn how to complete the Book/Video/Cd Request Form
Go to the Book/Video/Cd Request
Form

Enter in your barcode and password:
- Barcode number (found on your student id card starting in 235...)
- Password (your last name up to eight letters
- Click on Log On
Enter in the following:
- Author (Last name, First name)
- Book title
- Place of Publication
- Publisher
- Year published
- ISBN
- Not Needed By date will be automatically filled in for you
- Check the Copyright checkbox
- Click on Go to submit your request
CONGRATULATIONS! You have successfully completed the ILL request. A confirmation
will appear that you can print. An email will automatically be sent to you
upon your item's arrival, which is typically within 7-10 days for titles available
within Minnesota. It may be picked up during library

Learn how to request an Interlibary
Loan using library catalogs:
Searching MnPALS:
Begin your search by
going to the MnPALS
Catalog

- Search for items by
title, keyword, or author
- Click Search

- Click on the desired title


- A login screen will appear, requesting your barcode and password.
- Barcode is the number found on your Student ID starting in 235...
- Password is typically your last name (up to 8 letters).
- Click on Log On
- PLEASE NOTE: You will need to click on the ILL
Request button again after logging in with your username and password in
order for the request form to appear.

- The request form will pop-up partially filled out.
- Not Needed after date will be automatically filled out for you
- Click on the checkbox below the copyright statement
- Click Go
CONGRATULATIONS! You have successfully completed the ILL request. A confirmation

Searching MnLINK:
Begin your search by going to the MnLINK
catalog
- Enter in your search terms
- Click Search

- Click on the title in order to verify that it is the item you want to
order OR
- Click on Get It in order to skip
to the login screen

- Review the record to confirm that it is the correct item
- Click on Get It

- Enter your barcode found on your student id card (starting in 235...)
- Fill in your password (your last name up to eight letters)
- Click Sign In


- Choose Managed By MnPALS as the Pickup location from the drop-down
box
- Click Submit

Searching WorldCat:
Library users cannot request materials in WorldCat. However, you
may fill out a blank Book Request
Form by manually entering the details, email the request
to tc-library@smumn.edu, or print out the item found in WorldCat
to give to the library (see below).
