Library Instruction
Librarians are available to provide course-integrated library instruction. For distant cohorts librarians can provide the instruction through webinars. This instruction is done during regularly scheduled class time and lasts approximately one hour. Research shows that students learn information literacy skills best when they have to apply what they have learned; therefore, librarians provide course-integrated instruction under the following conditions. First, the library instruction segment must relate to a student learning objective of the course. Second, there must be a graded assignment given to students that relates to the information presented in the library instruction session. Third, the library instruction session must be scheduled in a computer lab. Instructors who are interested in scheduling a library instruction session for a course should submit the Instruction Request Form at least two weeks before the requested class time.

See the chart below for the librarian who can assist with planning and scheduling the instructional session.

Online Guides
Librarians can create online course and subject guides for instructors who want to point students to specific library resources. See the chart above for the librarian who can assist with creating an online guide. In addition, library staff members are able to create secure links to full-text articles if the article is accessible through a library subscription. These links can be used in Blackboard, in electronic newsletters, or on other university Web pages.

Course Reserves
Instructors may place material on reserve for student use for the duration of one semester. For more information, see the course reserves page.

Video Reservations
Faculty members may request that library videos be booked for certain show dates during a semester. Requests should be made using the video reservation form. The following information must be included in the request:

• video title

• the date the video will be used

• the date for pick-up

• course number and name for which the video will be used

• preferred pick-up location - campus mailbox or library (instructors who teach off campus may request that videos are mailed)

Copyright
Faculty and staff may consult librarians on questions about copyright. For more information, see the Library's copyright page.

Linking to Full-text Articles
The library provides many full-text resources through subscription databases and electronic journal collections. Linking to journal articles in Blackboard is an easy method of abiding by publishers' copyright restrictions. Click here to learn how to and why you should link to articles in Blackboard instead of handing out or emailing copies of articles to students. Please contact a librarian for assistance.

Suggesting Purchases
Faculty, staff members, and students are welcome to make suggestions for purchases of library material. Material is evaluated for the extent to which it fits the library's collection and supports the University's curriculum. Please note that the library does not purchase required textbooks for its collection.

Please complete and submit the Purchase Suggestion Form and your request will be reviewed. You will receive a response back from the Director of Library Services to inform you whether or not the library will purchase the material.

Library Statement for Syllabus
The following statement is required on all syllabi. It can be copied and inserted into your syllabus.
