Westlaw provides access to both business and legal information. Available business information includes newspapers, trade journals, and company information. Legal coverage includes law reviews and journals, federal and state cases, statutes, and regulations.

Accessing Westlaw
- Go to TC Library's homepage: http://www.smumn.edu/tclibrary
- Select the Articles tab. Click the Databases A-Z link and select Westlaw.
- Off-campus users: You will be prompted to enter your Saint Mary's University username and password after you select a database.
Searching Westlaw News & Business
To search for news and business information, make sure the News & Business tab is selected. Leave the default search screen at Advanced Search. Enter your search terms in one or more of the boxes provided, and use the Search Tips to make your search more specific. Get more recent results by using the Date drop-down menu. |

Westlaw News & Business isn't just for searching for articles. Instead of using the traditional search box, you can find other options under the Shortcuts menu. If you want to retrieve information from a particular newspaper, choose Publications List to see all of the newspapers that are available. Company reports from Hoover's and SEC filings are also available. |

Westlaw News & Business Search Results
Once you have your list of results, you can use Edit Search or Search in results to refine your search if needed. Your search terms will be highlighted in yellow. Use the boxes next to each article to print, email, or save. To view an article, click on its hyperlinked title.
Within each article, you can print, email, or download (save) it as a pdf. The Research Trail feature allows you to view your search history and share it with others. View other articles in your search results by using the links on the left.
Searching Westlaw Law
To perform a search in Westlaw Law, select the Law tab. In the Advanced Search mode, enter your search terms using the Search Tips as a guide. Choose a date range and up to 10 categories to search within. Alternatively, use Shortcuts menu to use a law dictionary, find a specific document by title or citation, use KeySearch to search within a topic, view landmark documents or get an overview of important legal issues. Additional search tips can be found in the Help (FAQs) section.
Westlaw Law Search Results
