The Consortium of MnPALS Libraries is a group of libraries, primarily made up of Minnesota colleges and universities, that have reciprocal borrowing agreements. This means that students at St. Mary's have access to a larger pool of resources, including books, videos, CDs and more. This tutorial will teach you how to do a basic search in the MnPALS catalog.
On the main library homepage, select the Books & Videos tab. You can search for an item by title, author, subject, or ISBN/ISSN number. A keyword search can be done by leaving the search option at "All Fields." Click on "Search."
Once you have a list of results, you can narrow your search by choosing from the topics on the left, or sort your results by relevance, date, author or title. Note that the "Refine your search" options on the left list the number of items available for each category. You can narrow your results by format, such as books or DVDs. You can also see the item's location and whether or not it's available. Please note that you only have access to electronic books owned by Saint Mary's.
To learn more about an item, click on its hyperlinked title. You will be brought to the item's record.
Use the tabs to view the Table of Contents to find out more about the item. Click "Cite this" to see the APA or MLA citation (always check for errors before using it in your References). If you'd like to borrow the item through Interlibrary Loan, you can log in under Request Item to fill out a request form. For more information on Interlibrary Loan, please visit our Borrowing from Another Library (ILL) page.
