Requesting an Item

Twin Cities Library can get you any item you want—whether we own it or not. If you would like to request a specific item (e.g., The Grapes of Wrath), simply follow the directions below.

Request Items from Other Libraries

  1. Select Library Home from the top SuperSearch menu to return to the library homepage.
  2. Mouseover Request an Item at the top right of the library homepage.
  3. Select Request an Article or Request a Book/DVD from the drop-down list .
  4. Log in with your Saint Mary's username and password (same as Blackboard, WebMail, and WebTools).
  5. Fill in the form.
  6. Check the box next to the statement, "I have read the above statement and agree to abide by its restrictions."
  7. Select Submit Request.
  8. Success!!
    • Most books and DVDs arrive to Twin Cities Library within 1-4 business days. When the item arrives, we will email your Saint Mary's Gmail account. You can ask us to mail the item to your home address for free by responding to the notification email.
    • Most articles arrive within 1-2 business days. All articles are emailed directly to your Saint Mary's Gmail account. Some libraries only allow you to print and save their articles for one week, so check your Saint Mary's Gmail account frequently after submitting article requests.

Request Items Twin Cities Library Owns

  1. Enter the title in quotes (e.g., "The Grapes of Wrath") into SuperSearch on the library homepage.
  2. Look for the title in the results list.
  3. Select Request this item (a.k.a. placing a hold)
  4. A window with our library catalog pops up.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
  6. Select Request item.
  7. Log in with your Saint Mary's username and password (same as Blackboard, WebMail, and WebTools).
  8. Select the Submit Request button at the bottom of the screen.
  9. Success!!
    • The Request this item option is for reserving books and DVDs on our library shelves - also called placing a hold.
    • If an item is currently checked out by someone else, a librarian will notify you via email when the item has been returned. If an item is not checked out, you may still place the item on hold.
    • All library items will be held for one week after the notification email is sent.
