Requesting an Item

Twin Cities Library can get you any item you want—whether we own it or not. If you would like to request a specific item (e.g., The Grapes of Wrath), simply follow the directions below.

First, verify that Twin Cities Library does not own the item.

  1. Enter the title in quotes (e.g., "The Grapes of Wrath") into SuperSearch on the library homepage.
  2. Look for the title in the results list.
  3. Access the item by selecting one of the following links (located under the title):
    • PDF Full Text or HTML Full Text
    • Get Full Text
      • Select a link to a database (e.g., JSTOR) that will direct you to the full text article.
    • Request this item (also calling placing a hold)
      • A window with our library catalog pops up.
      • Scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
      • Select Request item.
      • Log in (Username: 14-digit barcode number found on your student ID card; Password: your last name).
      • Select the Submit Request button at the bottom of the screen.
      • Success!!
        • The Request this item option is for reserving books and DVDs on our library shelves - also called placing a hold. If an item is checked out by someone else, a librarian will notify you via email that the item has been returned. If an item is not checked out, you may still place the item on hold. All library items will be held for one week after the notification email is sent.

Second, request the item if Twin Cities Library does not own it.

  1. Select Library Home from the top SuperSearch menu to return to the library homepage.
  2. Mouseover Request an Item at the top right of the library homepage.
  3. Select Request an Article or Request a Book/DVD from the drop-down list .
  4. Log in (Username: 14-digit barcode number found on your student ID card; Password: your last name).
  5. Fill in the form.
  6. Check the box next to the statement, "I have read the above statement and agree to abide by its restrictions."
  7. Select Submit Request.
  8. Success!!
