The Calculus Sequence
This is a sequence of four four-credit courses (M 151, M 152, M 251, M 252)
covering topics of single and multivariable calculus and linear algebra.
It is
intended for mathematics, applied statistics, biology, business, computer
science, chemistry and physics majors, as well as for any students who wish
to
take one or more courses in calculus.
With the advent of powerful expert systems to do symbolic manipulations our
curriculum has been refined to incorporate these systems. A computer
mathematics system (Mathematica) and a graphing calculator is introduced
and used throughout these courses. Our goal is to help students understand
calculus on the higher-order learning levels, to be able to use these ideas
to
solve nontrivial problems, and to work cooperatively with others to solve
real
problems.
