Mathematics Major:

The program for the major in mathematics is designed to include flexibility in
course selection and close student-faculty contact so that a major best suited
to the interests and abilities of each student is possible.

Requirements:

                        M151 Calculus I
                        M152 Calculus II
                        M251 Calculus III
                        M252 Linear Algebra
                        M291 Sem: Mathematics Foundations I
                        M391 Sem: Mathematics Foundations II
                        M401 Abstract Algebra
                        M411 Advanced Analysis
                        M491 Senior Seminar
                        ST232 Introduction to Statistics
                        ST332 Mathematical Statistics
                        CS110 Computer Science I

Four additional upper division courses; at least three in mathematics or
statistics, a fourth may be in another field using mathematics with the approval
of the major advisor and the department chair.

The department recommends that majors complete the computer science
requirement during their freshman or sophomore year. In addition, it is
strongly recommended that majors take additional courses in computer
science and one or more courses in the physical sciences. Those who plan to
do graduate work in mathematics should include a sequence in at least one
