Four additional upper division courses; at least three in mathematics or
statistics, a fourth may be in another field using mathematics with the approval
of the major advisor and the department chair.
The department recommends that majors complete the computer science
requirement during their freshman or sophomore year. In addition, it is
strongly recommended that majors take additional courses in computer
science and one or more courses in the physical sciences. Those who plan
to
do graduate work in mathematics should include a sequence in at least one
modern language, preferably French, German, or Russian.
