SMU Summer String Workshop (2013)
Mission: The Mission of Saint Mary’s String Workshop (SMSW) is to inspire talented young string players to develop their skills and musicianship to tackle many important aspects of string playing in the contemporary era. Through an eight-day workshop, participants will lots of opportunities to work closely and intensively with the faculty and improve their skills in solo, chamber music and orchestral playing.
What is SMSW? Saint Mary’s String Workshop is a dynamic summer string institute held at the Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. SMSW includes individual lessons, masterclasses, musicianship classes, string technique classes, faculty and students performances, in addition to optional creative art classes and student exhibitions, Lasallian Catholic retreats, lots of outdoor fun, international fellowship and opportunities to attending world-class concerts at the prestigious Minnesota Beethoven Festival - performers include the dynamic Shanghai string quartet, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, world-class guitarist Sharon Isbin and lengendary pianist Mischa Dichter.
When is SMSW? July 7-14, 2013
Who can join SMSW? Young string players (age 12-18) who are interested in developing their skills in playing solo, chamber music and orchestra repertoire. Pre-formed chamber groups are welcomed.

Workshop Fee: $660 for the entire workshop, meals and housing, and access to campus facilities included (commuter rate: $570, lunch and dinner included). Workshop fee is due upon acceptance into the program. A 5% discount is available to early and successful applicants before March 1st. You will be able to receive an additional 5% discount if you refer a friend who is accepted and attends. Visa and Mastercards accepted.
