  • Through the generosity of Winona State University, HarpWeek: The Civil War Years (1857-1865) is now available. HarpWeek is an electronic full text version of Harper's Weekly, in which many American writers first published.

  • A Modell of Christian Charity (1630) by John Winthrop is available in electronic format from the Hanover Historical Texts Project at Hanover College.
  • International Outreach, Inc. maintains a site of electronic versions of the revival sermons of Jonathan Edwards preached during the period of the Great Awakening at the site Revival Sermons of Jonathan Edwards.
  • The University of Virginia has gathered and digitized almost 1,700 letters, papers, and documents of Thomas Jefferson at its website Texts by Jefferson in the Modern English Collection.
  • The works of Thomas Paine are well-represented on the WWW through the Online Thomas Paine Library; online texts include Common Sense, The Age of Reason and The American Crisis.
  • Biographical information on Washington Irving is available from the University of Virginia's page Washington Irving. A number of his works are available from Project Gutenberg -- Washington Irving.
  • Dedicated to spreading interest in the life and works of James Fenimore Cooper, the James Fenimore Cooper Society offers information on its activities and related biographical and bibliographical information on Cooper. A number of his works are available from Project Gutenberg -- James Fenimore Cooper
  • Information about the life and work of Edgar Allan Poe is available from the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore. Especially useful articles concerning the reason for Poe's death and his literary testament. Poe's works in electronic format can be found at Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe., which includes prose and poetry.
  • General information on the life and works of Henry David Thoreau are available from the Walden Society. Complete electronic versions of Civil Disobedience, Walden and Walking are available at Project Gutenberg -- Henry David Thoreau. The Writings of Henry Thoreau--from Northern Illinios University " provides, for the first time, accurate texts of Thoreau's complete works: his writings for publication, his Journal, his correspondence, and other uncollected papers. Much of the material in this edition has never been published before."
  • The Whitman Project at the University of Virginia is in the process of creating an inclusive site for the works of Walt Whitman through their Walt Whitman Hypertext Archive. The Archive contains biographical materials, notebooks and letters, manuscripts and reviews of Whitman's works, as well as the works themselves in electronic format.
  • Prof. Stephen Railton and his students have gathered excellent biographical and critical sources on Mark Twain at their site Mark Twain in His Times available from the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia. Twain's major works are available in electronic format from Project Gutenberg -- Mark Twain
  • William Dean Howells is represented on the WWW through the William Dean Howells Society at Gonzaga University, which provides interesting biographical and critical data on Howells' writing.
