American Association of Suicidolgy This organization's mission is to "understand and prevent suicide." AAS members include researchers, therapists, prevention specialists, survivors, and people in crisis. There is a list of crisis centers and support groups on this site.

American Sociological Association. The ASA has 13,000 members and has been existence since 1905. This site is divided into three sections–one for professionals, one for students, and a public section with information on current issues and definitions.

National Association of Social Workers 155,000 social workers belong to this organization. The site contains information about conferences, a chat room, news, and a list of state chapters.

Administration for Children and Families ACF is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is responsible for programs relating to economic and social well being of families and children. The site gives information on its programs and services, such as child abuse and neglect programs, Head Start, family violence prevention programs, refugee assistance programs, and child support enforcement.

Administration on Aging The AOA is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services. This site provides both information and links to other sites of interest to older Americans. Topics focus on the social, medical, and legal issues of senior citizens.

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance This federal web site is the online version of the annual catalog published by the U.S. General Services Administration. It is a catalog of social service programs available from the federal government. Each entry describes a program, lists its eligibility requirements, and provides information on applying for the service or grant.

Center for Housing Policies--research affiliate of the National Housing Conference includes interactive database Paycheck to Paycheck, which presents wage information for more than 60 occupations and home prices and rents for nearly 200 metropolitan areas.

Child and Family Web Guide: your gateway to the best sites about children. This site is produced by the Department of Child Development at Tufts University. It finds links to sites about learning, children’s health and mental health, child care, parenting, and child development. The directory describes each site and provides an evaluation of "web sites that contain research-based information about child development."

FirstGov for Seniors FirstGov for Seniors is a joint project of the National Project for Reinventing Government and the U.S. Social Security Administration. It provides quick access to information and services for senior citizens provided by the federal government in the areas of health, consumer protection, tax assistance, and education.

The HUD USER Database "is the only bibliographic database exclusively dedicated to housing and community development issues. It contains more than 10,000 full-abstract citations to research reports, articles, books, monographs, and data sources in housing policy, building technology, economic development, urban planning, and a host of other relevant fields."

Institute for Research on Poverty This organization was established at the University of Wisconsin-Madison by the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity. IRP "analyzes trends in poverty and economic well-being." The full text of its reports and discussion papers are on the site, as well as links to similar web sites.

National Coalition for the Homeless The NCH is an advocacy organization. Its web page contains its fact sheets and reports. There is also information about pending legislation, a directory of organizations which help the homeless, and job announcements.

Ameristat This statistical site is produced by the Population Reference Bureau and William Frey of the University of Michigan. Their site is easily navigated and information is presented in both text and graphics. It provides data on population, age groups, migration, labor and employment, family, mortality, etc.

EconData.Net "is designed to help practitioners, researchers, students, and other data users quickly gain access to relevant state and substate socioeconomic data. The site aims to be a convenient, comprehensive first stop for anyone searching among the vast, disparate array of public and private data sources on the Web. EconData.Net is sponsored by the Economic Development Administration as a service to regional data users, and is jointly operated by Impresa, Inc. and Andrew Reamer & Associates, independent economic development consulting firms."

Fedstats : a gateway to statistics from over 100 US federal agencies. FEDSTATS was developed by the Clinton Administration’s Interagency Council on Statistical Policy. Statistics may be found by searching by topic, by geographical area, or by federal agency name.

Kids Count 2004 Databook--"is a national and state-by-state effort to track the status of children in the U.S. This site focuses on an interactive presentation of data from the annual Data Book, the signature product of the KIDS COUNT initiative.Ten key measures comprise an index of child well-being used to rank states and supplemental data on education, health, and economic conditions for each state."

Detailed files from the 2000 census and previous census reports are available as pdf or Excel files. World Population Tends The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs Population Division provides this site containing global population statistics. Some of the general categories for statistics are mortality and migration, fertility and family planning, and population estimates and projections.

Population Reference Bureau The Population Data Sheet for most up-to-date demographic data and estimates for all the countries and major regions of the world. The rundown provides a look at regional and national contrasts in age structure, population growth, life expectancy, income, and other determinants that mark today's deep demographic divisions.
