Food and Nutrition Information Center The FNIC site is produced by the US Department of Agriculture and the Agricultural Research Service. Its mission is the collection and dissemination of information about food and human nutrition. This database may be searched by topics arranged in a dictionary format. There are also lists of resources, information on dietary supplements, and the food pyramid. Human Kinetics This site is a commercial site maintained by Human Kinetics Press, the leading publisher of books on sports and training. Along with selling its publications, the site also provides links to athletic organizations, job leads, educational programs, and journals. Nat Tool for Good Health The NAT or Nutritional Analysis Tool is an online computer program for evaluating a users diet. Each food item is entered into the program along with the quantity consumed and the NAT evaluates its nutritional value. It will also recommend foods to meet the user's daily RDAs. There is also an Energy Calculator program, which shows how many calories are burned at different activities. Sportquest SPORTQuest is a search engine produced by SIRC (Sport Information Resource Centre) of Canada. SportQuest is the "world's leading bibliographic database producer of sport, fitness, and sports medicine information." Searching is done by keyword and by one of 82 sports. Results find links to teams and clubs, magazines, statistics, and universities and college programs. Special topic searches find information of interest to youth and women. Organizational Home Pages
American Dietetic Association This site is aimed at both professional dieticians and consumers. It includes information, such as daily nutrition tips, nutrition fact sheets, reading lists, and tips on dieting. American Heart Association The AHA site provides information about heart diseases and their prevention. There are lists of warning signs which indicate a heart attack, stroke, or cardiac arrest. There are suggestions for a healthier lifestyle through improved diet and fitness. The AHA also gives information on CPR and CPR training classes. Exercise Research Association "EXRA is a non-profit research and consulting firm whose purpose is the performing research and disseminating results of scientific research in the fields of health, fitness, and sports medicine." The text of their reports is included on the site. International Olympic Committee (IOC) This site has news about the Olympic Games, list of IOC recognized sports, list of games since 1896 and future games, a list of medal recipients, and a link to the Olympic Museum. National Athletic Trainer's Association This organizational web page is of interest to professional athletic trainers or to those interested in pursuing this as a career. There are links to accredited educational programs, salary surveys, placement services and job listings, and a list of conferences. There are also news items and statistical surveys on sports injuries. National college Athletic Association The NCAA "strives to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the educational program and the athlete as an integral part of the student body." This official site contains information on its Hall of Fame recipients, statistics, team rankings, and employment opportunities. National High School Athletic Coaches Association Although this site is intended for NHSACA members, it also includes items of interest to others. There is a list of Hall of Fame recipients, the Coaches' Code, the Parental Code, job opportunities, and a directory of sports camps. Sports Media Sites
