Distance Learners: Off Campus Access to Resources

  • Subscription Databases and Indexes: When you click on a subscription database from off campus you will be asked to supply your user name and password. Enter the same user name and password that you use for your other St. Mary's accounts--e-mail, WebTools, Blackboard, etc. If you have access problems call Academic Computing at (507) 457-7800 or the Reference Desk at (507) 457-1562.
  • Library Catalog: To access the Saint Mary's catalog click on Books and more: MnPALS catalog. You will be able to search the catalog freely, but if you want to place an item on hold or check your borrowing record or perform other personalized tasks you will need to enter the number on the bottom of your Saint Mary's ID card for "user name" ( all 14 digits) and up to eight letters of your last name for the "password" (or your complete last name if you registered after June 20, 2005).
  • netLibrary: E-books at Saint Mary's can be accessed directly through the MNLink site on netLibrary and are also cataloged in MnPALS. To use e-books you must set up an account while you are on campus. It's easy to do--just click on "create an account" from netLibrary's main page and decide what you would like to use for a password and user name. Once you are registered your account can be accessed on or off campus. You may browse the resource or check it out for exclusive use for four hours. Books can be searched by Table of Contents or by keyword. Any notes or bookmarks you create when accessing a book are saved for you as well. Partial printing of the material is allowed.
