How
to Participate:
Eligibility
All males
with the name O'Shea, Shea, Shee, Shay, and other variants (all
anglicised forms of Ó Séaghdha) are invited to participate.
Also, males with the names O'Falvey (Ó Failbhe) and O'Connell
(Ó Conghaile) are welcome, as these are theoretically related
male lines (all of the Corcu Duibhne kin group). Only males may
participate, becuase only males have a Y chromosome.
Procedure*
You must
submit a sample of your DNA (in this instance, cells swabbed from
the inside of your cheek) to the FamilyTree DNA laboratory. The reduced group participant cost for this testing is US $148 for 25 markers (minimum suggested for meaningful results) or $189 for 37 markers (recommended). Full details are found on Family Tree DNA's
Web Site. To be eligible for the reduced price, you must sign up through the O'Shea surname project page. You may join via the Family Tree DNA O'Shea Group enrollment page:
https://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.aspx?code=F30503&special=True&projecttype=S
In order
to make the data of the greatest possible value to other researchers,
we are requesting that participants also submit details on the extent
of their male-line ancestry as far as it is known, providing as
much informaiton on the earliest male-line ancestor as possible
- especially geographical information. This background information
may be e-mailed to the Group Administrator.
That's it!
